Cottonwood Creek Talent Show
Published: Sun, Apr 22, 2018, 12:23PM CDT

Dear CCE Learners and Parents,

It is once again time to start planning for the annual Cottonwood Creek Talent Shows. The Talent Shows will be held on the following afternoons at 1:30 pm in the CCE Cafeteria:

May 25 – 3rd grade
May 29 – 4th grade
May 30 – 5th grade

The Talent Show will be limited to grades 3 through 5. Each student may be in only one act. Each person or group will “try out” with the director to perform, discuss the details of their act, and have any music approved. Try Outs will be held the week of April 30th-May 3rd in your music class.

A written copy of the words to your song is required at the tryouts. Due to the limited capabilities of our sound system, skits will not be considered for our show. Reminders will be made on CCNN. Our talented back stage crew will be serving as MC’s again this year.

Please have these things ready for tryouts:

  • A printed copy of the words to any song being used in the act.
  • If you are singing, a karaoke version of the song on a CD is DUE at the time of auditions.
Please note that purchasing and burning music onto a CD is a tricky process… it CANNOT be downloaded as an MP3. If you need help, email Ms. Meador.
  • An explanation of any props, mats, microphones you will be using, and a description of costumes are needed at the time of auditions.
  • Length of the act can be no more than 3 or 4 minutes.

**Any questions to smeador@coppellisd.com (Sarah Meador)

New CCE PTO Website!
Published: Sun, Apr 22, 2018, 12:23PM CDT

The CCE PTO is proud to the launch its new PTO Membership Toolkit Website:
www.cottonwoodpto.org

Our goal was to build a community website that would be a “one stop” site for everything Cottonwood Creek. Information about important events, volunteering, our achievements, and a place where you can buy school supplies and spirit wear are just a few of the features of our new website.

All CCE families must register (it’s FREE) on this new website to have full access to all of its features, including receiving our weekly school newsletter, The Weekly Watch. In addition, you must register on this site if you plan on ordering school supplies and spirit wear for the upcoming school year.

NOTE: If you registered for our Color Run this past fall OR have a child at another school that uses Membership Toolkit, you do not need to register. You will use the same username and password. We only ask that you update your contact information and your child(ren) grade information.

Steps to Register:

  • 1) Visit www.cottonwoodpto.org
  • 2) Click on “LOGIN/REGISTER”
  • 3) Click on “NEW USER”
  • 4) Fill out ALL the registration information with your contact information and your child(ren) name(s) and current grades. This information is important when you go to purchase school supplies, spirit wear, and/or register for events, such as our Fall Color Run.
  • 5) Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email. After you have confirmed your registration, you will be able to use the username and password to our website.

If you have any issues with your registration, please contact Joey Guerra (Technology Coordinator) at cceptotechnology@gmail.com.

CCE WWII Veterans Time Capsule
Published: Sun, Apr 22, 2018, 12:23PM CDT

CCE is passionate about honoring our veterans and we’d like to get our entire school (learners, teachers and staff) involved in a special project.

Every day, memories of World War II disappear. These men and women who served our country are now in their late 80s and 90s. According to US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, 558,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in WWW II are alive in 2017.

Will you help CCE create a WWII time capsule?

Do you have a living WWII veteran in your family? We’d love to interview your veteran and capture them on video. Email cceyearbook@tri-kes.com for more information.

Would you like to honor a WWII veteran in your family who has passed away? Scan or take a picture of their photograph and upload it to Dropbox. Would you prefer to submit their photo by video? Have your CCE learner (or you yourself if a teacher/staff) do a short video (15-30 seconds or less) with them showing a picture of their veteran. On video have your CCE student say their own name and explain who is in the picture, stating the veteran’s name and their service branch (air force, army, marines or navy). Then upload the video to Dropbox. A video will be put together to share on Veteran’s day next year.

A Note From The CCE Clinic:
Published: Sun, Apr 22, 2018, 12:23PM CDT

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your children will be participating in new activities due to the warmer months and may be sharing baseball caps and helmets, attending more sleepovers and camps, playing with friends and neighbors, etc. This is an opportune time to get or spread head lice.

Head lice are commonly spread by direct head-to-head contact. Stress that your child not share clothing such as hats, helmets, pillows, hair ribbons, brushes, or other items that touch the head.

Typical symptoms of head lice infestation include itching, sores on the head, nits (eggs), and live lice. If live lice are identified the CDC recommends using an FDA approved product and strictly follow manufacturer directions. Many home remedies have not been proven to be safe or effective.

Please spend a few moments each night examining your child’s head for nits or live lice. Spending a little time each day may prevent your child from getting and/or spreading head lice.

Thank you!

STAAR Testing
Published: Sun, Apr 8, 2018, 01:00PM CDT

 Cottonwood Creek Family,

We will be administering the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) to our fourth & fifth grade students on  Tuesday, April 10th and Wednesday, April 11th. Fourth graders will be taking the Writing STAAR test, and fifth graders will be taking the Math STAAR test on Tuesday. The fifth graders will then take the Reading STAAR test on Wednesday. During these days, all other grade levels will continue with a regular school day.

It is important that we have an environment that is free of interruptions to ensure that our students have the opportunity to do their best on these important days.  In order to provide a secure and quiet testing environment,  no visitors will be allowed on campus. This will also include all lunch times. You may contact the office on these days if you are in need of assistance, and our office personnel  will be happy to help you.

Additionally,  cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited in a state testing environment for testing grade levels.   Please help us enforce this policy and encourage your student to leave his/her cell phone and other devices at home on testing days.  If they need to bring devices to school, please know that we will collect the phone and give it back to your child at the end of the day.  For students in testing grade levels, they will not need their typical supplies for the day, so they can leave the backpacks at home.

Please make certain that your fourth and fifth graders get a good night’s rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time and ready to do his/her best on the test.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping our campus and our students be successful on our state testing days!

Sincerely,
Allison Horton
